Each season there seems to be an unidentified hype about the Topshop show. Perhaps it is because the brand is the only high-street store to feature in London Fashion Week, or perhaps it is because the quirky little trends they create will be seen in 50% of the London female wardrobes next season.
Last year it was poodles. The print was everywhere for the A/W2011 show. A month later there was an effortless cool about the Barry M crackle nail varnish and almost everyone was fascinated.
I do enjoy the anticipation of seeing what they pull out of the bag this time round. The clothes are undeniably edgy and sexy. There is a charm and a raw fashion element that I can't quite place in every season and lookbook.
But how often do you see anything like these items in the high-street stores you visit? They aren't 'ready-to-wear' in so many cases that the novelty of a high-street brand showing at LFW is completely irrelevant.
I found this season's line gorgeous, if not a little cliche. The Cleopatra theme seems a little fancy-dress and naive, even if it stands out from almost every show seen so far this season.
What do you think?
